Joseph Campbell

I'm rereading this book for my current project and find it contains the answer to individual and national ills. It's psychologically true with a deep and broad understanding of religions and world literature. No matter where you are in life, this book can heal you.

Movies & writing

I am more and more eager to offer a class on what movies have to teach us about good writing. I am a huge movie fan, mostly independents, but in my town the only theater offers mostly movies for juveniles. A weekly frustration. Thank heavens for Netflix.

Anais Nin link

On the right you'll see a live link to www.anaisnin.com. This is a Web site I co-founded with Moira Collins and Donna Ippolito 30+ years ago. For "Ninnies" it is a fund of juicy tidbits, serious and delectable.

May day verse

One of my favorites for this time of year is Rimbaud's poem, “Soleil et Clair”

The Sun, hearth of tenderness and life,
Pours burning love over the delighted earth
And, when one lies down in the valley, one smells
How the earth is nubile and rich in blood;

And how it contains, big with sap and rays of light,
The vast swarming of all embryos!
And everything grows, and everything rises!

What are your favorite books and movies?

Drusha Mayhue said her favorite movie is "A Little Romance" and her favorite books are "The Shock Doctrine" by Naomi Klein and "When Corporations Rule the World" by David Korten.
My most recent favorite movie is "Broken Embraces" by Pedro Almodavar with his muse Penelope Cruz.

James Hillman

I have just read a paper by Hillman in which he says he deliberately wrote about the darkest issues people have, e.g. suicide, depression, war. Am interested in having a discussion about his writings. Anyone want to join me?

Elvis Presley, still the king

January 8th was Elvis' birthday. He would have been 75. Turner Classic Movies showed two of his tours. Both were great, showing him in top form. He had a voice that is so much better than others today. He also is a whole lot sexier. I enjoy him just as much today as I did when I was 15 and first saw him in Texas. See http://www.elvispresley-thebook.com/ for my book about him. Read More
